Will there be light ?

Telephone not working since two days. So no internet.
No power in our house since last night. And tomorrow is Diwali. Ironic.

With so much going "for" my "Thalai Deeepavali" celebrations, it is but perfect that i should remain silent lest i say something unparliamentary. The second part of the story would be posted mid-Nov. Hopefully.
As i said before, i am caught in many pressing domestic issues and hence the delay. Do please bear with me and while you are in this loving, forgiving mood, do say a small prayer for me. I need it.

Thanks.
Wish you all a colourful and bright Diwali!

Sleepily Ever After - Part 1

Note: I started work on a series of such short stories with the feedback i got for my last attempt. Do throw in your brickbats and bouquets if any, this time too :) Will post the ending later :p
***********************
Sleepily Ever After

Littlette Pookums Lilt stared at the ceiling wistfully; the leaves slowly ruffled as if turning in their sleep. The silence of the night was deep like a treasure waiting to be unearthed. Nights on Silicon planet are always a treat for the senses. With Ersha, its second Moon rising ever so slowly, the splendour of the country lies open for all; at least for those who wish to savour it. Littlette Pookums is one of those or rather she became one. Pookums Lilt wasn’t a light sleeper unlike her cousin Principecia Royale who couldn’t sleep because of a whisker on her shell. Though Littlette Pookums could ignore her taunts, she couldn’t turn a deaf nose to all the other noise. Especially not this particular tune that kept her awake all night. She turned her big round eyes towards the source of the rhythmic monotone. And there he was, snuggling deeper into the mud bed and oblivious to his lady’s discomfort snoring louder than ever, our hero Little Dudlum Pastel.

Pookums sighed, scampered out and decided to walk. Synfois, the planet’s sun would soon rise above the valley. Littlette Pookums walked slowly around their house. It wasn’t a mansion but she loved it. Well which sane bug wouldn’t? They had built it with materials brought from Wonluck, the rich region north of their little hamlet. If you remember, Little Dudlum came from Boomerangdung, east of Lake Murky Waters.

Anyway their mansion had the distinct smell of scribbled feathers and she loved it. You would too, if you knew how scribbled feathers smelt. Her favourite room in the entire house was the Art Room where Little Dudlum painted. Yes, she married a painter much against her parents’ wishes. But the very fact that he threw away a high paying Dungkicker’s job to paint made all her whiskers tingle with pleasure. And if you lived in Silicon planet you would know that it is not everyday that whiskers tingle, much less with pleasure. She wrote songs about his paintings. There wasn’t much income as a songwriter. The band Crickets On the Fence for whom she wrote songs weren’t really blessed with what one would call a pleasing voice. But with tastes having changed since her mom’s times to hers, they did sell platinum leaves. Together she and Little Dudlum made enough to have roast salamanders at least once a month.

Life with Little Dudlum was indeed a blessing if only he didn’t snore. She had tried every thing but nothing worked. Until that morning. As she walked into her living room, the Tweeter chirped. A message from her best friend Amber Ambrosia. She was the local bugger. Her Snapple stuffed Bug Pies are famous all over Silicon planet. It won’t be long before they hit our world either. In fact, I once had the good fortune to accompany her on her Snapple expeditions where…there I go on one of my tummyscapades while you are biting your nails to know what the message is.
This is what it said, “Welcome to Sleepily Ever After; An island of In Somnia, the big lake south of Boomerang Dung. Come once and you will stay forever, addicted to the serenity and peace around you. “
This was followed by a set of directions to get there which am sure is not what you are here for. Littlette Pookums stared at the message. The Remedy. Maybe she would finally be able to sleep peacefully. Excited, she scampered as fast as her eight legs would carry her, to their bedroom. Soon the love bugs were twittering animatedly about Sleepily Ever After.

  To be continued.

Circle of life

Every problem has a solution.
Or so they claim.
But when the solution turns into another problem, you get sucked into a whirpool from which there is no escape.
Not that you realise you are stuck in it.
And then you return to the point where the circle began.
The Problem.

There are days in your life when you want to pick someone up from your memories and give them a tight hug.

...And there are days in your life when you realise that you can hug them only in your memories.

The 'IT' factor

Back in office doing what i do best - Blogging :D

Checked in with SPM, discussed options and now that the skies over career are clear, am sitting around and enjoying the brief downpour in Chennai :)

It was so heartening to see that some things never change including the flush in the ladies restroom which need to be pushed twice for proper effect. Right now busy chalking out plans to disrupt productivity by making sure the working communtiy knows that I am in town. Muhahahaha!

So let me get back to telling people here what a jerk O'Reilly is and how much i miss Rajdeep Sardesai. And yeah, before i go, I sincerely feel bad about the picturisations of 'Oru Maalai' and 'Sutrum Vizhi' in Ghajini. Boohoo!

Apart from that my favourite Boyfriend Vaibhoo(Divya's 2 year young son) and my littlest niece Keerthana called up to sing "Kumari" song for me. Keerthana said "Kumari chithi naan paRandhu America varen UKG padikka". She wants a school with a swimming pool :D

Aah...the simple pleasures in life :)

Home Dirty Home

Reached home around 2 hours back. Realised my room is as dirty as i left it.
It does seem funny to sit in my old room on my chair and try to type this post before VSNL conks out.

Can't explain if i am happy or sad i came home.
I just hope the Good Lord has a %@*#ing plan for all his string pulling.

Till then,
ciao.

Taa Daa dee Dum

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn
The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go

--CHANTAL KREVIAZUK

Ah well not exactly. I do know that I'll be back in Nashua on Nov 9, 2005. But sadly it would be my "Thalai Deepavali" without the Thalai :( The Mr couldn't manage any holidays.

Yet I am excited about many things:
  • Meeting Amma & Appa and spending time with family again.
  • Kaal nanaichifying in Marina beach
  • Cooking for parents and showing of my expertise :p
  • Coffee with friends at CCD, Ispahani :D
  • An engagement party of a friend I am looking fwd to
  • Ogling at Ghajini in the theatre ;)
  • Madras nalla Madras. Atlast and atleast for some time :)
  • Showing off all the fat that i lost coz of my cooking :p

But yeah will miss The Mr a lot. I am sure he is going to have peaceful time without a nagging voice asking him to drive to Shaws or the Nashua Lib or both :D But there also wont be a cook conjuring up EggPlant Parmesan and Shrimp Biryani or Kootanchoru either :)

Will blog after i reach The Promised Land. Ciao!

Misunderstood Hero(in)es

"Sex and The City" Miranda's view on Hansel & Gretel:

This woman goes ahead and builds her dream house and these brats come
out of nowhere and start eating it up.

How often have we misunderstood someone just because they were in the wrong place with the right mind? One of my fave misunderstood hero is Ravana. Like i told this smart woman, here is this man who is leading a happy life and then as fate would have it, runs into a beautiful woman who is his soul mate in every aspect. Pity both he and she were already married. So we name him a villain just coz he found Sita right for him?

Of course all that kidnapping, shidnapping wasn't right at all but then haven't we ever heard of "Meeting the woman of your life and then running into her handsome husband" before? That was Ravana's situation. Had he known Sita existed in life maybe he wouldn't have married at all or would have taken that flight across wilderness much sooner.

Now Rama is far from an ideal hero. All his goodness came to naught the moment he doubted his wife and asked her to walk through fire to prove her innocence -- Not to him but to the world. What? A husband who runs his family based on market trends isn't really 'God' material but we never let that bother us too much.

Having grown accustomed to viewing life in shades of black & white, we rarely see the yellows and the greys...and lost in those unseen colours are a million heroes waiting for their songs to be sung.

Missing and Found!!!

"So long and thanks for all the fish"
-- Not just a line from Hitch Hiker's Guide to Galaxy but looks like those were the sentiments echoed by my favourite pair of dolphin ear-rings before they disappeared.

I have this unwritten rule in my life which states that any piece of jewellery bought by yours truly will not stand the test of time and would vanish. However trinkets 'gifted' by anyone else would stay put till my grand daughter's era. Laugh, if you will but that rule has been proved good so many times that i will not dispute it.

Now the reason for this post:
I LOST my gold Dolphin earrings. :(
The Mr's first gift to me before our wedding. I still remember the way he pleaded, shouted and finally convinced me to buy those cute dolphins from the Tanishq showroom in T.Nagar on Feb 18, 2005. I still have the bill as part of my treasure box BUT the dolphins are missing :(

I have turned my house upside down and searched in every damn nook and purse but i still can't seem to find them and i am growing desperate and depressed by the moment. This is not a request asking you to join the 'dolphin-hunt' or call up Ace Ventura but do please pray to the Mighty Forces ruling the cosmos, so that they may put some sense into those dolphins and make them come home to me.

Sigh...till then let me sing to them.

See them play in the moonlight
Watch them dance in the sun
They're the children of freedom--everyone
As they care for each other
With no question or cause
They deserve to be treasured as a source of love

-- Olivia Newton-John, 'The Dolphin Song'

Update: Looking through the Digicam snaps found that the Dolphins made their last appearance on Aug 27 on a trip to Lincoln & White Mountains. Retracing steps from then found the pair hiding behind my favourite pink stone chokker necklace :D Yipeee!
