Verbal Modern Art

Long ago, the Queen of Sarcasm called out to her doting subjects on a matter of high entertainment value, and...gosh! the introduction is taking longer than the tag. Shoot! Move on!

I am thinking about...
Why are 'Moving On' and 'Growing Up' so overrated?!

I said...
I don't want to go to the gym. I am thin. I swear. Just look at me through my eyes.

I want to...
Sleep on Amma's lap. The last time I did that, I was 13 and suffering from jaundice.

I wish...
I knew how certain people were living right now.

I hear...
voices in my head. A different life in a parallel Universe.

I wonder...
If pain really serves any purpose in life.

I regret...
The fact that I have so many things to regret.

I am...
Who you want me to be in your moment of need. Everything and Nothing.

I dance...
Nonstop. In the shower, while vaccuming, watching TV, picking groceries and cooking. My favorite is ofcourse, The Dappankoothu where in I can dance any which way I please.

I sing...
love songs with my eyes closed.

I cry...
Too much, too often, for people who care too little.

I am not always...
This insane. Sometimes, I am worse.

I make with my hands...
Jigsaw puzzles, paper crafts, lobster dinners and many more.

I write...
everything that I feel coz I get tongue-tied when I have to speak it out.

I confuse...
People who are slow to wit and sarcasm. The rest of the world and I are in sync.

I need...
to make up my mind.

And finally...
I am waiting by my window for Peter Pan to fly in and take me to Neverland.

Yipee! I am finally done. I pass this tag to:

Gif/Duck and Vee and Anyesha-- They need to write more often.
Jax -- Coz I just feel like it.
RS -- She tagged me once and nothing is sweeter than revenge :p

The Contest

Voting has begun at Thenkoodu for the contest and it is open until June 25th.
So if you liked any story not just mine, do drop in, register yourself and cast a vote please.
However cheap this canvassing I might be, I will stick with it :)

Thank you!

A New Beginning

With the encouragement I received for my Thamizh post, I've started a new thamizh blog. I have also moved(as in re-wrote) most of the thamizh posts I had here in this blog to that site. I am not sure how much I would be able to write in both English & Thamizh, but for now am optimistic.

The blog is here.
The food blog has been updated with recipes.

Have fun!

On a Boring, Hot Monday Afternoon

Sex

Is it possible to be an old-fashioned romantic and a fashionplate for the modern age, all at once? Somehow, you make it work. You're a living contradiction: intelligent and worldly, yet constantly surprised by what life throws at you; fiercely independent, yet desperately longing for lasting love. With all of that going on in your head, it's a wonder you even get up in the morning!

One of those posts

... filled with random jottings to while away a Sunday morning when The Mr sleeps peacefully on the couch. Before you raise cudgels against me, The Mr's fever got worse early this morning on its way out and after I made sure he had his medicines and was comfortable watching old songs on Sun Tv, i dozed off like any doting Missus :p

  • It's amazing to blog to the music of Rang De Basanti. And while on it, Aamir Khan is so awesome in that movie esp in the scene when he realises the Brit girl can speak Hindi :)
  • Not just kids, even husbands who act like kids when sick bring out the maternal instincts in you. Even if all you want to do is sit and close your eyes after bringing in a big load of laundry up 2 flights, you walk in to the kitchen with a smile to make the chutney he wants and let him watch that awful baseball :)
  • I lost my fave green blouse which made me look all cutesy-cutesy :( Must have left it in the laundry room. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
  • I miss home.
  • Realised I can no more sit on the sofa and wait for Amma to walk in with a plate of vadais. It's time for me to walk in with the said plate while others sit and wait. What? When did that change take place?!!! Nooooooooooooooooooooo!
  • Curtis Stone (of TLC's Take Home Chef) is as scrumptious as the food he cooks :D I too dress up nowadays when I go to do groceries but then that silly man never visits East Coast :(
  • If you are my bestest friend of many years, then you attend my wedding even if your Manager sits on your head afterwards. Especially if you are in the country. There, I have said it! I don't feel light and the person concerned won't read it but what the heck!
  • I want to go back to Chennai.
  • I absolutely loved Bluffmaster, the main reason being the ooh-la-la Abhishek Bachchan. I repeatedly played the movie some 3 times and whistled & danced everytime he came on screen (which was some 90% of the time) while the Mr threatened to not give me any dinner if I don't shut up :p
  • The 3 weekends we planned to go to the beach, it poured cats and dogs in Nashua. The one wknd the sun comes out, The Mr is down with flu. God is definitely Man.
  • I want to be told I look cute when i wear my new turquoise blue halter neck blouse even if reality is far from truth. After all, that's the tag line of my blog :D
  • Mayaavi song , "காத்தாடி போல ஏன்டி என்னை சுத்தற?" is an awesome song to drive to. On our last trip, as the Mr tried to shorten the 9 hr drive, I danced to the song in the passenger seat making the cars ahead change lanes faster to avoid us ;)
  • Last night I drove The Mr to the hospital and back as smoothly as a knife sliding through butter. The fact he was too spent to point out mistakes could have helped :p Whatever be the case, am so proud of myself. American roads - here i come!!!
  • I want Amma. Right Here, Right Now!

Paper Confetti Shower

Little Princess stood in front of the mirror, lost in the many turquoise threads of her beautiful dress. The sunlight dancing with the maroon sequins throwing colourful shadows on the wall, making her smile. It was The Paper Festival. A day she never once thought would arrive as beautiful as it did today.

Of course, no festival can happen overnight. Compromises were the order of the day and the strain of holding it together put an undue stress on Little Princess. Sleepless nights, restless lifetimes later, the dawn finally arrived. Back in Little Princess' kingdom preparations had begun for the big event almost a month earlier. Gifts arrived bearing the King's seal on chariots led by stallions and silk scrolls were sent by the dozen, their paths lit by fireflies. The Queen Mother never left anything to chance. She even made the Royal seamstress stitch the most beautiful dress in the entire kingdom and sent it across, much to the amusement of The Man.

As the big event approached, Little Princess stood by her window and looked out. Her longing eyes searching the bright blue skies for homing pigeons, messengers of The Everglades. She longed to read the poetry of Bunny, listen to the songs of Thrush and Nightingale, but none arrived.

Little Princess moved away from the window. Somewhere deep within she knew that window had closed long ago. Things changed ever since she moved to The Man's kingdom. As much as she longed to be the same, Father Time had different ideas. There were prizes to be won, kingdoms to rule, strategies to be made and when one danced with such matters of great import, remembering The Paper Festival was just a triviality that could be missed.

The Gong resounded through the corridors. Little Princess hurriedly gathered her flowing dress and rushed out for the feast. She took her seat and looked at him. A playful glint twinkled in The Man's eyes as he took in her beauty, accentuated in her new turquoise dress and bathed in the soft candle light. A small smile creased her lips. A new beginning was being scripted in the papers.

Fairer Sex or not, Life's unfair!

Disclaimer: Rantsy -Antsy Post

  • My best friend said I swear a lot nowadays. Damn it! What the bloody hell am I spposed to do?
  • It's their semi-annual sale and I still need to shell out $35 for sth I like which is being manufactured in good ol' Madras. Aaaaaaaaaaargggggggh! Will some girl scout find their factory in the bylanes of Chennai and sneak a few items for me? :p
  • All dieting came to nought. Apparently our weighing machine is at fault and I HAVEN'T lost 10 pounds. Bah! Technicalities, I say!
  • A house can be cleaned only so many times. After the millionth time, one feels maybe under the sofa is indeed the best place for dirty coffee mugs and magazines.
  • Husbands should know that the time between hairstyle changes is when you say "Darling you look ravishing!" and NOT "Honey, you need a haircut!"
  • But the worst is when you spend 45 minutes on a marathon ISD call, to speak to 30 members of your family celebrating the first birthday of the newest additon to the family, from 87 yr old Grandpa to 4 year old niece who says "oohniform vangi aachi. Naan school po poren. Neenga eppo vareenga?" [Uniform has been bought. I am going to school. When will you come?] and you hang up to return to a cocoon of silence.

Life Sucks! I Want Amma!
